You are changing fields, and the postings keep filtering you out

The problem with changing fields is not that you cannot do the work. It is that almost every filter between you and a hiring manager is built to sort on the thing you do not have yet, which is time served in that exact job title.

Where career changers actually get hired

Not in the roles you clearly qualify for. Those are below where you could land, and applying only there is how people end up taking a step sideways and down at the same time.

And not in the roles where you miss a hard requirement. A clearance you do not hold, a licence you have not earned, a named certification the posting lists as required. Those applications are volunteering for silence.

It is the band in between. You clear every hard requirement and you look slightly underqualified on the soft ones, the years-of-experience ranges and the preferred lists. That is where a person reads your application and thinks about it instead of filtering it.

Finding that band is most of the work, and it is genuinely hard to do for yourself, because you are the worst-placed person to judge whether your own background counts.

The part that wastes the most evenings

Postings that were never going to answer anybody. Roles reposted every month for a year. Listings with a junior title and a senior responsibilities list. Agency postings with no named client. You cannot tell any of that from the listing page, and nothing tells you afterward which kind you applied to.

So the silence you are reading as a verdict on yourself is partly just a verdict on the postings.

What I do

I read the postings, throw out the ones that were never going to answer, and hand you a short list with the reason each one is on it. Including where you are the underdog, because you should know that going in rather than find out from the silence.

I cannot promise you a job or an interview, and you should be suspicious of anybody who does.
